The short version. Pagegloss has no account, no ads, no analytics and no tracking. The developer does not receive your documents, pictures, notes, highlights, saved words or the words you look up.
What stays on your iPad
Your documents, pictures, notes (typed and handwritten), highlights, bookmarks, saved words, reading positions and settings are stored on your iPad only. Any API key you add is stored in the iPad's Keychain. Deleting the app deletes this data.
What runs on your iPad
Apple's translation, the iPad's own dictionaries, pronunciations, text recognition in pictures and scans, reading your handwriting, Apple Intelligence explanations where your iPad offers them, and read-aloud all run on the device. Nothing is sent anywhere for these.
The camera and Photos
Pagegloss uses the camera only when you choose Scan with Camera, to take pictures of pages, and opens only the pictures you choose from Photos or Files. They stay on your iPad.
What can leave your iPad, and only if you choose it
- An online translation service that you choose. If you pick one, such as Google, OpenAI, Gemini or DeepSeek, the text you select, the sentence or paragraph around it and your language choices are sent directly from your iPad to that service, using your own key. They do not pass through any server of ours. The service handles that text under its own privacy policy and may keep it for a time. You are asked to allow this for each service before anything is sent, and you can turn it off at any time. Your documents, notes and highlights are never sent.
- An online text recognition service that you choose. By default, text is read on your iPad. If you choose an online service in Settings › OCR service, such as Google Cloud Vision, Azure AI Vision, Mistral, Anthropic Claude, Gemini or OpenAI, a picture of the box you asked it to read, and only that box, is sent directly from your iPad to that service, using your own key, and only when you ask. You are asked to allow this for each service first.
- A connection test. “Test connection” sends one fixed example sentence, and “Test reading” sends one small picture of the words “Pagegloss reads boxes”, made on your iPad.
- Links you tap. Tapping a web address, phone number or email address in a picture opens it in the app you would normally use for it.
Purchases
If you buy an unlock in the app, Apple handles the payment. We do not see your payment details.
Children
Pagegloss is a reading tool and is not directed at children under 13.
Your choices
You can remove a saved key or turn off an online service in Settings, delete individual documents and notes, or delete the app to remove everything.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted at this address with a new effective date.
